A powerful typhoon hit southern China Friday, where over two million people had already been affected by persistent heavy rains. Rain-triggered landslides and floods claimed the lives of 10 people on Friday, according to Xinhua. Hundreds of thousands have been evacuated. The current damage to housing infrastructure and crops is estimated at 1.5 billion yuan (about 240 million dollars). Typhoon Rammasun, which claimed dozens of lives in the Philippines, made landfall Friday on the southern island of Hainan, weather authorities said.
