The European Parliament has voted 422-250 in favour of Jean-Claude Juncker's nomination as the next president of the European Commission, the president of the legislature says, according to dpa. "I think that with (this) result, a fundamental change of direction has been achieved in the structures of the European Union," parliament President Martin Schulz said, referring to a new process of lead candidates that was used in the nomination. "With all my heart, Jean-Claude Juncker, good luck for your future work," added Schulz, who had competed against the former Luxembourg prime minister for the commission post. Juncker acknowledged the result with a smile and a nod. He had to secure a majority of at least 376 votes to finalize his nomination.
