The top U.N. official in Afghanistan on Monday welcomed the country's Independent Election Commission's (IEC) implementation of an audit to resolve concerns over the presidential poll results. The IEC already started "discussions on how to quickly start the implementation of this really unprecedented full audit of all the ballots cast," Jan Kubis, the head of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), told reporters in Kabul. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry facilitated the audit plan, which was announced on Saturday at a press conference attended by the two presidential candidates, Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani.
