The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has witnessed unprecedented economic and industrial developments over the past decades, leading to significantly increase in domestic energy consumption. This was emphasized in an article written by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Petroleum Affairs in Oxford Energy Forum Magazine issued by the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies in its issue No. 96 of May 2014. He further said that based on current patterns of local consumption of energy, estimates suggest that this consumption will grow at a rate of 4% and 5% per year until 2030. Also, in his article written under the title "Importance of Energy Consumption Efficiency for Economic and Social development in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.", the Prince hinted that while the majority of States were able to reduce the energy intensity of their economies, the energy density in the Kingdom increased significantly over the past two decades, and this makes it imperative for the Kingdom at the strategic level to make rationalize and raise the energy efficiency as one of its main priorities.
