Tropical Storm Boris weakened into a tropical depression Wednesday but continued to drench southern Mexico. The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said the storm was likely to drop as much as 50 centimeters during its passage across Oaxaca and Chiapas states. More than 20 centimeters already had fallen on the coastal town of Tonala. The NHC said Boris was centered about 140 kilometers east of Salina Cruz early Wednesday, and the storm was moving north at about 7 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kph.
