The joint general meeting between the United Nations (UN) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) continued here today in the presence of Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ambassador Hameed Opeloyeru and Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu, Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Program. In his statement, delivered by Ambassador Opeloyeru, OIC Secretary General Madani noted that the UN and the OIC have made strident efforts in consolidating their consultations, coordination and collaboration mechanisms. He stated that in the identified sectors of joint action, the two Organizations have held regular meetings, seminars and workshops aimed at developing the capacities of the personnel in their respective General Secretariats, as well as subsidiary, specialized and affiliated institutions. In the political sector, he recognized the copious support of the United Nations for the establishment and take-off of the OIC Peace and Security and Mediation Unit, while the OIC's election-monitoring outfit has also benefited from the training programs conducted by the United Nations Electoral Assistance Division. In the similar vein, OIC Secretary General noted, the training programs and seminars dedicated to showcasing the cause and welfare of the Palestinian people have boosted our advocacy for the restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
