Prosecutors in Belgium have opened an attempted terrorism investigation into two men who were prevented from boarding a plane in Cameroon, amid suspicions that they were carrying explosives, Belgian media reported Friday, according to dpa. The pair had apparently intended to fly to the United States following a layover in the Belgian capital Brussels, the Belga news agency said. The security services of the Belgian carrier Brussels Airlines were informed that the two men "were intercepted under suspicion of possessing improvised explosive devices," prosecution spokesman Wenke Roggen told Belga. Belgian authorities are now verifying if the pair "really were transporting explosives," Roggen said, noting that security has been stepped up at Belgian airports as a precaution. Roggen did not disclose the suspects' nationalities, but said they did not have Belgian passports. The flight that the two men were supposed to board travelled as planned to Belgium, where it arrived on Friday morning. It did not, however, immediately proceed to the US, Belga said. -- SPA 20:27 LOCAL TIME 17:27 GMT تغريد
