Voting began Sunday in Panama to elect a new president and 71 members of the National Assembly, according to dpa. In the running for the votes of the country's 2.4 million registered voters are presidential candidates Jose Domingo Arias from the governing Democratic Change party and Juan Carlos Varela of the opposition Party for Panama. According to the latests opinion polls, Varela is running neck and neck with Arias, whose running mate, Marta Linares, is the wife of outgoing president Ricardo Martinelli.
