U.S. President Barack Obama has approved additional military assistance for Ukraine for health and welfare items and supplies, the State Department announced on Thursday. "The State Department will provide $3.5 million in foreign military financing to support Ukraine's armed forces with medical supplies and service member equipment," spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters. "We will deliver these items as quickly as possible. Additionally, the Department of Defense will allocate $3 million from Cooperative Threat Reduction funding to support Ukraine's state border guard service, the supplies to include clothing, shelter, small power generators, and hand fuel pumps," Harf said during the daily press briefing.
