A roadside bomb hit a police vehicle Monday, killing three people and injuring four others in western Afghanistan, according to dpa. "The police were patrolling in Shindand district today when a bomb placed on a roadside hit their vehicle," said Abdul Raouf Ahmadi, police spokesman for Herat province. "The injured were taken to medical facility and are in stable condition," he added. Separately, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden minivan in front of a coalition forces' convoy in the southern province of Kandahar, Afghan and coalition officials confirmed. Local officials said the convoy belonged to the US military. "The bomber exploded his minivan targeting a US convoy in Maiwand district," said provincial police spokesman Zia ul Rahman Durrani. He said that nobody was hurt in the attack, but a vehicle of the US troops was destroyed. "The bomber was the only dead and nobody from the US soldiers or civilians were hurt," he added. The international military confirmed the attack. "We can confirm an ISAF convoy was targeted by a vehicle-loaded today in southern Afghanistan, but no casualties reported," a NATO spokesperson said.
