Venezuelan Attorney General Luisa Ortega admitted Friday that there had been "excesses" in the use of force against anti-government protests and said that 102 alleged human rights violations were being investigated, dpa reported. Ortega told reporters that 17 law enforcement officers were under arrest over these cases, and she stressed that all perpetrators would be brought to justice. "We have some cases in which excesses were committed and in which people's rights were violated. The public prosecutor's office has launched investigations to establish the responsibility of the officers who may be involved," she said. Protests against the government of leftist Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro since February 12 have left 39 people dead and a further 608 injured, according to the authorities. -- SPA 21:58 LOCAL TIME 18:58 GMT تغريد
