Luiz Fernando Pezao is the new governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro following the resignation of Gov. Sergio Cabral, who is expected to run for Senate in Brazil's upcoming general elections, according to AP. Vice Gov. Pezao was sworn in Friday morning, one day after Cabral delivered his letter of resignation to the Legislative Assembly. Brazilian public officials must step down before campaigning for a new office. Pezao will serve out the rest of Cabral's term through the end of the year and is expected to run for governor himself in October. Both Cabral and Pezao are members of a centrist party allied with the Worker's Party of President Dilma Rousseff. -- SPA 19:00 LOCAL TIME 16:00 GMT تغريد
