US President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into law legislation providing $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees to Ukraine. The legislation also punishes Russia for its annexation of the Ukrainian region of Crimea, calling for the direct imposition of sanctions on certain people with regard to Ukraine. Some U.S. lawmakers are urging Obama to take further steps, including increasing U.S. natural-gas exports to Europe.
