At least 19 Afghan soldiers were killed and seven captured Sunday when militants attacked an outpost in eastern Afghanistan, dpa quoted police as saying. "A large number of the militants assaulted an army outpost at 3:30 am (1100 GMT) in Ghaziabad district. In an hour-long gun battle, 19 soldiers were killed," Kunar province police spokesman Ahmad Farid said. "The militants also took seven soldiers, but four of them could manage to escape," Farid said, adding that two soldiers were also wounded. Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
