More than 200 illegal miners were trapped Sunday in an abandoned shaft of a gold mine in Benoni near Johannesburg after a roof collapse, broadcaster eNCA reported. According to dpa, a spokesman for emergency rescue services said they had made contact with 30 of the miners who were higher up in the mine. There was no immediate information about casualties.
