Sushil Koirala was sworn in as Nepal's 37th prime minister Tuesday at the presidential palace in Kathmandu, dpa reported. Koirala was elected by 405 votes in the 601-member parliament on Monday after an agreement was reached among the major parties. Chief Justice Khilaraj Regmi, who was leading a technocratic administration in charge of holding election, stepped down on Tuesday to make way for Koirala to take office. The current parliament, elected in November, also doubles as the Constitutent Assembly in charge of drafting a new constitution. Nepal's first Constituent Assembly was formed in 2008, after a peace deal with Maoist rebels ended a decade-long insurgency.
