The eurozone economy is giving off signs of gaining strength, with a key indicator of business expenditures released Thursday showing a 31-month high in January, dpa reported. The purchasing managers' index for the currency bloc's manufacturing and service sectors jumped to a more-than-forecast 53.2 points this month, compared with 52.1 in December, the London-based research group Markit said. Analysts had expected a more modest gain, to 52.5 points. "The eurozone's recovery gained further momentum in January," said Markit chief economist Chris Williamson.
