Federal authorities have detained 17 Haitian migrants found on a tiny island just west of Puerto Rico. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Wednesday that the migrants were transported from Mona Island to the U.S. territory for processing. The announcement comes amid an increase in Haitian migrants headed to Puerto Rico. Last week, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued 10 migrants near Mona. Two were reported missing and never found, AP reported. Another 13 Haitian migrants were rescued in late December and one remained missing.
