Local authorities searched the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Saturday for some 40 Haitian migrants missing after their boat sank. But the U.S. Coast Guard left the search as hopes for survivors faded, reported The Associated Press. No survivors or even corpses had been found at sea Saturday, a day after the deadliest maritime disaster to befall Haitian migrants in years. Thirty six were already confirmed dead in addition to the missing. Authorities on this British territory asked the Coast Guard to suspend its search, «apparently because they believed the likelihood of finding more survivors was very slim,» Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Barry Bena told The Associated Press on Saturday.
