Rescue teams searched for survivors of a building collapse in India Sunday as police pressed criminal charges against the builder of the five-storey structure, according to dpa. At least 14 workers were killed in the accident, the IANS news agency reported quoting officials, although local police confirmed 11 deaths so far. Twenty-three injured workers were taken to hospital. Police said the building was under construction in the seaside town of Cancona in Goa state when it collapsed Saturday. "The rescue operations will continue all through Sunday. Army, police and firemen are involved in the effort. Cranes and bulldozers are being used to remove the debris," area police chief Harish Madkaikar said by phone. It was not clear how many people were trapped under the rubble. Some media reports estimated up to 100, but officials put the figure between 20 to 60.
