The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said Wednesday that a 6.6-magnitude earthquake has hit the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that there was no tsunami warning in effect. The USGS report said that the quake hit early Thursday local time, with the epicenter 37 kilometers west of the village of Sola and 443 kilometers north of the capital, Port Vila. The report said that the quake was at a depth of 196 kilometers.
