Seismologists at the University of Nevada said that a magnitude 2.9 earthquake was recorded early Monday, centered roughly 8 kilometers southeast of Boulder City. Seismologists said that they received numerous reports of short-duration ground shaking from people in Boulder City and Henderson. No aftershocks were reported. Ken Smith, associate director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada, said that it is possible, yet just as unlikely, that the quake may be a foreshock to a larger event. Nevada is one of the most seismically active states in the United States.
