The United States on Wednesday welcomed Japan's adoption of a national security strategy as well as their revised national defense program guidelines. "Our alliance with Japan is the cornerstone of peace and security and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific," State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said during the daily press briefing. "We are pleased that both the strategies and guidelines contain language on strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance. We think that is very important," Harf told reporters. "And we would also [welcome] Japan's outreach to explain its security policies, including by sending officials to other foreign capitals. We certainly appreciate Japan's efforts to be as transparent as it implements its evolving defense policies," Hard added. Reportedly, Japan's new defense and national security documents suggest Tokyo will focus much of its efforts on securing the most advanced U.S. defense technologies.
