More than 10,000 people were displaced by floods brought about by heavy rain across Malaysia, but there were no reported casualties, police said Tuesday, according to dpa. In the eastern state of Pahang, 5,401 people fled their homes after floods engulfed large areas in the towns of Kuantan, Rompin Maran and Pekan. In the southern state of Johor, 4,785 people were evacuated from flooding in the towns of Mersing, Segamat, Kluang and Kota Tinggi, while 811 people fled their homes in the north-eastern state of Terengganu. The displaced people were being housed in emergency shelters. The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecast continued rain in the affected areas.
