Six people were reported killed in floods in Malaysia's east coast states, as the number of people displaced rose to 21,800 as of Thursday, dpa cited the official news agency Bernama as saying. The annual north-east torrential monsoon rains caused rivers to rise to dangerous levels in the states of Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu, the latter being the worst hit with 14,894 displaced. All six flooding deaths occurred in Terengganu. A six-year-old boy drowned after falling into a canal while fixing a fishing net. A 14-year old boy also slipped and drowned while washing his motorcycle near a canal. Three teenagers, believed to be playing in the flood waters, also drowned while the last victim, a 36-year old woman, died after falling into a river while trying to cast a fishing net. The meteorological department has warned that heavy rains would continue in the coming days and will include southern Johor state and the west coast states of Perak and Selangor.
