Pakistan appoints new army chief

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday appointed new military chief to succeed General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, officials said, according to dpa.
General Raheel Sharif is scheduled to take charge of the key post on Friday when Kayani is due to step down after commanding the army for six years.
