Chinese and EU officials opened talks on Thursday on an agreement that European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said should protect investments on a "fair and equal basis", dpa reported. The two sides should expand bilateral investment and offer better protection, said EU President Herman Van Rompuy after he and Barros held talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. Barroso said the European Union supports the wide-ranging economic reform package announced by China's ruling Communist Party last month. At a China-EU business forum on Thursday, Li said his government averted a crisis earlier this year by mobilizing market forces and refraining from increasing spending.
