Two American citizens died in the Philippines, where Super Typhoon Haiyan has left thousands of casualties, the United States said Tuesday. "There have been two U.S. citizen deaths in the Philippines," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters. "The number may change as we receive additional information. The U.S. Embassy in Manila is providing consular assistance to the families of the deceased. Out of the respect of the families, we are not, of course, providing details." The State Department is working with U.S. military personnel in the Philippines to check on Americans it knows are in the country, Psaki said, but as a matter of policy the State Department does not disclose how many requests for help it has received. The United States announced Monday that it will supply $20 million in aid to the Philippines –emergency shelter supplies, hygiene kits, and emergency food bars and pastes.
