The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia informed officially the Secretary General of the Organization of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon yesterday that it has decided with deep regret not to occupy its seat elected for it at the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term effective from the start of the next year 2014AD. This came in a letter addressed from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the Organization of the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Mo'allemi to the United Nations Secretary General. Ambassador Al-Mo'allemi enclosed with his letter a copy of the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the election of the Kingdom to the membership of the Security Council in which the Ministry explained the reasons for which the Kingdom apologized for the membership of the Council. The Ambassador said in his letter, " I would like to inform you that the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to inform you that the Kingdom is sorry that it will not be in a position to occupy its seat at the Security Council elected for it on October 17, for the period 2014-2015, and that the reasons for this decision have been clarified in the attached statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 18 . " Ambassador Al-Mo'allemi said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirms its commitment to the United Nations and its various organizations and expresses its appreciation for the valuable leadership of the Secretary General of the United Nations for global affairs, stressing his determination to work closely with the UN Secretary General to advance the cause of peace and development in the world.
