AlHijjah 22, 1434, Oct 27, 2013, SPA -- Flights into the Catania airport on the Italian island of Sicily were reduced Sunday to five landings per hour after nearby Mount Etna spewed lava and ash for the first time in six months, dpa reported. The north-east crater of Europe's most active volcano continued to belch ash Sunday, a day after it erupted, but its south-east crater was dormant, Italian media reports said. The 3,350-metre peak is the highest active volcano in Europe. Minor eruptions such as Saturday's have been occurring more frequently with 38 reported since 2011, 13 of which took place this year. Etna's last major eruption was in 1992. This weekend's outbreak caused no reported damage or evacuations but caused ash to shower down on nearby areas.
