AlHijjah 17, 1434, Oct 22, 2013, SPA -- Japan donated an additional $1 million to UNICEF in Jordan to support the United Nations cultural agency's work with the Syrian refugees, raising Tokyo's contribution this year to $8 million. "The funds will support essential programs to provide water and sanitation in government schools and in the Za'atri refugee camp," Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted UNICEF representative in Jordan Rozanne Chorlton as saying in a statement on Tuesday. The fund will be used for the hosting communities in Jordan to support provisions for water and sanitation in public schools, while UNICEF will also work in partnership with the Japanese Emergency Organization to rehabilitate 20 schools with approximately 10,000 students across Jordan. In the Za'atri camp, the fund will contribute to mitigating the water storage and expanding distribution network, which is expected to benefit 30,000 people.
