AlQa'dah 16, 1434, Sep 22, 2013, SPA -- Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau lifted a warning for Typhoon Usagi Sunday but said continued heavy rain was possible in the eastern and southern highlands, DPA reported. Usagi brought heavy rains across the island Saturday, causing floods in some low-lying areas in the southern regions. Accumulated rainfall in eastern Ilan county exceeded 500 millimetre. The Central Emergency Operation Center said 3,349 residents were evacuated and 1,388 people stayed in 62 shelters. No deaths were reported but nine people were injured by falling tree branches in Kinmen County. The bureau said the storm had weakened but boats sailing on the Taiwan Strait and the Bashi Channel should remain cautious. Officials said the sea warning may be lifted Sunday afternoon. The storm was moving west-northwest toward Hong Kong and southern China.
