AlQa'dah 13, 1434, Sep 19, 2013, SPA -- The United Nations and the African Union (AU) agreed this week to strengthen protection of conflict-affected children in Africa. "As the African Union is taking a larger role in the continent's mediation and peacekeeping operations, it had become essential to make our partnership stronger," said Leila Zerrougui, the U.N. secretary-general's special representative for children and armed conflict. Zerrougui's office and the Peace and Security Department of the AU Commission signed the agreement Tuesday, in partnership with the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF), to intensify measures to protect children from armed violence.
