AlQa'dah 12, 1434, Sep 18, 2013, SPA -- The Security Council has extended the U.N. peacekeeping force in Liberia for another year but chided the West African nation to fully fund its national police force to ease the U.N. withdrawal. According to AP, the council unanimously adopted a resolution Wednesday to withdraw 1,129 U.N. troops over a year, whittling to a force of 3,730 peacekeepers by mid-2015. The police component was kept at 1,795 officers in 10 police units, but the resolution urges Liberia to fully fund its own national police and security forces, saying Liberia is ultimately responsible for protecting its own people.
