U.S. President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd of Australia spoke on Tuesday about the ongoing Syria crisis during a telephone call, according to a White House statement. "The two leaders expressed their grave concern about the reported use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime against civilians near Damascus on Wednesday, August 21," the White House statement said. "President Obama and Prime Minister Rudd discussed possible responses by the international community and agreed to continue to consult closely," the statement said.
