The death toll from a collision between a cargo ship and a passenger ferry off the waters of the central Philippines rose to 17 on Friday, the coast guard said. According to dpa, emergency workers rescued 575 passengers from the sea off Talisay City in Cebu province, 580 kilometres south of Manila, where the MV Saint Thomas of Aquinas sank, officials said.
