A passenger ship sank off a central Philippine island Friday, leaving two dead and more than a dozen missing, the coast guard said according to dpa. Forty-one people have so far been rescued from the waters off Burias island, 307 kilometres south of Manila, where the MV Lady of Carmel sank at dawn. One of the two dead was a 50-year-old woman, coast guard spokesman Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said. Balilo said additional rescue vessels and teams have been dispatched to the area to help search for 14 people still missing.
