The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has condemned the gruesome killing of more than 50 people in a mosque on Monday, 12th August 2013, by people suspected to be members of the extremist insurgents in Konduga, northeastern Nigeria. The Secretary General who expressed shock over the dastardly acts of the terrorists said the unjustifiable killing of innocent people while genuinely practicing their religion is unacceptable and would not be tolerated by any civilized society. He called on the Nigerian government to bring to justice those who are responsible for this heinous crime. The Secretary General extended his condolences to the families of the victims of the violence and to the people and the Government of Nigeria. He reiterated the principled position of the OIC that vigorously denounces all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all their forms and manifestations while it categorically rejects any justifications for terrorism.
