Rome police said they have increased security at the city's diplomatic missions following a heightened global terrorist alert, UPI reported. Police and bomb squads stepped up patrols, including manhole checks and other street-level activities, and concentrated extra security at the U.S., British and Spanish embassies, among others, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Friday. The actions come after the United States evacuated non-essential personnel from its Yemen embassy and Lahore, Pakistan, consulate, and closed temporarily 19 diplomatic posts in the Middle East and Africa, ANSA said.
