U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry made his first visit to Pakistan as Secretary of State yesterday, arriving in Islamabad to consult with the newly elected civilian government on key issues, including security and energy, the State Department said Thursday. "We are looking forward to working with the newly elected civilian government on a host of issues, [including] regional security and energy," State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters. During his visit Kerry plans "to reinforce the United States' continuing commitment to the Pakistani people," the State Department said in a statement late Wednesday. "Kerry's discussions will focus on a wide range of topics including promoting security, strengthening the Pakistani economy, and reinforcing people-to-people ties between the United States, in addition to regional topics of mutual interest," the State Department statement said. "Kerry will also stop in London, United Kingdom, for meetings en route back to Washington," the statement said.
