Microsoft is set to announce a major corporate reorganization to better align the company with a tech landscape dominated by mobile devices and online services, dpa cited the well-regarded technology blog All Things Digital as reporting Tuesday. The reorganization, expected to be unveiled on Thursday, would create a new cloud computing and business-focused products unit to be headed by Satya Nadella, who currenrly heads the company's server division. Windows chief Julie Larson-Green will be placed in charge of all the company's hardware efforts including the Xbox and Surface tablet computers, while Online Services leader Qi Lu could add Microsoft Office and other apps to his portfolio that already includes the Bing search service. Windows Phone chief Terry Myerson will take over Windows engineering and platforms while current Skype president Tony Bates will be given responsibility for all business development. The report said the reorganization would increase the control over the company by current CEO Steve Ballmer, despite criticism from Wall Street that he has failed to adequately make the paradigm shift away from desktop computing to smartphones and services.
