Belgian King to Abdicate in Favor of Crown Prince

Belgium's King Albert announced Wednesday that he will abdicate in favor of Crown Prince Philippe on July 21, the country's independence day holiday.
"After a reign of 20 years I believe the moment is here to hand over the torch to the next generation," AP quoted Albert as saying in an address carried by all of Belgium's major broadcasters. "Prince Philippe is well prepared to succeed me."
