France wants a "temporary suspension" of the trade talks between the United States and Europe due to start next week, government spokeswoman Najat Vallaud-Belkacem said after a cabinet meeting Wednesday. "We don't want to stop the negotiations on free trade but we consider it wise to temporarily suspend them, for a period of about two weeks, to avoid any polemic and to have time to obtain the information requested (from the US)," she was quoted by French media as saying.
