Forecasters said a small town in Iowa is being evacuated in advance of a local creek that's expected to spill over its banks due to intense rainfall, UPI reported. Residents in New Hartford, Iowa, population 500, were packing up Tuesday after 5- to 7 inches of rain fell upstream around Beaver Creek. The waterway runs through town and is expected to crest at 14.95 feet Tuesday -- a height that will put most of the town underwater, the National Weather Service said. Residents raced to put sandbags in place to reinforce a levee built after a similar flood in 2008 but the floodwaters will likely force the creek over its banks in other parts of town where no levies are built, The Des Moines Register said Monday.
