A British oil worker who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Indonesia's western province of Aceh was released Thursday, dpa quoted police as saying. Malcolm Primrose, 61, a supervisor at the oil company Medco E&P Malaka, was taken from his car Tuesday after visiting a drilling site in East Aceh district, said local police chief Muhajir, who like many Indonesians goes by one name. The captors asked for a ransom of 5 billion rupiah (505,000 dollars) but released Primrose even before the demand was met, Aceh police spokesman Gustav Leo said. "The captors said the ransom could be paid after he was released but we have requested the victim not to do it," he said. Police would still look for the kidnappers, he said.
