Vietnamese police have arrested eight men suspected of being involved in a gang who stole information from millions of credit cards, dpa quoted police officials as saying Thursday. Truong Duy Hai, 23, of Ho Chi Minh City, was arrested with seven others in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on Friday, a senior official in the Ministry of Public Security said. Hai was believed to be the leader of the gang in Vietnam, said the official, who did not wish to be named. The gang are believed to have hacked into websites, including online trading companies, to steal credit card information worth 300 million dollars, which they sold to hackers forums. Vietnamese police worked with investigators from the United States and Britain for two years before making the arrests. Four luxury cars were also seized during the arrests. Members of the gang allegedly used the stolen money to buy expensive houses in Vietnam. The US Department of Justice has brought charges against Hai, but it is not clear whether there are plans to extradite him to the US or Britain. Three people in London described by Britain's Serious Organised Crime Agency as "heavy users" of the hackers forum were also arrested, the agency said.
