Authorities in Vietnam suspect that a judge who had acid thrown in her face outside her home in the capital, was attacked by a member of an organized criminal gang, police, dpa quoted family members and court officials as saying Saturday. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, who works as a judge settling divorce hearings, was attacked a fortnight ago, and her family believe that police are dragging their feet in the investigation. "We reported all the information we had to the police only a few hours after the incident, but we have seen no progress made by police at all, even though it is two weeks since the attack," the judge's husband, Nguyen Van Diep, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. Loan had positively identified her attacker after police showed her a picture of the alleged culprit, Diep said. "I am not sure of the reason for the delay," said Diep. "The police know the person who did it, and probably know the reason she was attacked." The impact of the attack is being felt across the whole of Vietnam's legal system, according to a court official from the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City. "This is the first time something like this has ever happened to a court official, and it has shocked and panicked the entire judiciary of the country," said Ly Ngoc Hai, a court official from Ho Chi Minh City People's Court. --mor 1341 Local Time 1041 GMT
