Bhutan's ruling party was among two chosen Friday in an initial round of voting to contest the final round of the Himalayan kingdom's second general elections, dpa reported. The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) and the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) advanced. Two other parties were eliminated. The DPT won 44.5 per cent of the votes and the PDP 32.5 per cent, which allowed them to contest the July 13 election to fill the 47-member National Assembly, Bhutan's Election Commission spokesman Sherub Wangpo said by telephone. The Buddhist kingdom held its first general elections in March 2008, marking the end of a century-old absolute monarchy. -- SPA 20:18 LOCAL TIME 17:18 GMT تغريد
