Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa was inaugurated Friday for a new four-year term. Correa, 50, was sworn into office by National Assembly Speaker Gabriela Rivadeneira with several foreign heads of state in attendance, dpa reported. Correa has said that he will not seek re-election after completing his new term in 2017. He has already been in office for six years, with his government emphasizing major infrastructure projects and measures to alleviate poverty. Correa, an economist by training, arrived at the legislature holding hands with his Belgian wife, Anne Malherbe, alongside two of his children, Anne Dominique and Miguel Rafael. Sofia, his oldest daughter, is currently in her first year at university in France. Correa won February's election with 56 per cent of the vote, and his party won an absolute majority of 100 mandates in the 137-seat National Assembly. He has pledged to "deepen the citizens' revolution." -- SPA 241755 GMT Mai 13 21:09 LOCAL TIME 18:09 GMT تغريد
