Professional thieves were probably behind the theft of jewellery worth an estimated 1.4 million dollars at the CannesFilm Festival, French police said Tuesday, according to dpa. Initial investigations show at least three men were involved stealing the gems from a hotel room safe in the early hours ofFriday. The room had been rented to an American employee of Chopard, the luxury Swiss jeweller and official festival partner which loans jewellery to the stars for their appearance on the red carpet. Among the stolen items were said to be necklaces, rings and bracelets. Actress Julianne Moore, singer Lana Del Rey and model Cindy Crawford wore Chopard jewellery in the first days of the festival. Police said the perpetrators procured a room adjoining the Chopard employee's room. Between the two rooms was a connecting door. -- SPA 23:33 LOCAL TIME 20:33 GMT تغريد
